The Duffer Brothers’ nostalgia-drenched, 1980s-set sci-fi Netflix series “Stranger Things” returns for a second season in 2017 with production having been underway on the new episodes for a little while now.
David Harbour, who plays Sheriff Jim Hopper in the series, was a guest on the Fan2Sea Comic-Con cruise recently and talked about the second season as part of a cast panel:
“It’s a year later in the story, so there are several things that happened last year, like Will has come back. There are certain people in the town that know what happened, and then certain people that don’t know what happened. So there’s a lot of fallout with who knows what.”
He also confirms that second season newcomer Sean Astin will play the new boyfriend of Winona Ryder’s Joyce Byers, which is much to the chagrin of his character. Executive producer Shawn Levy has described the new season recently as bigger and darker, but “it’s character-based and still about our core group of characters”.
The new episodes are expected to appear later in the year, no specific date has yet been set.
