Hansel & Gretel Sequel Becomes A TV Series

Paramount Pictures has scrapped plans for a sequel to 2013’s sleeper hit fantasy action feature “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” and are instead planning to turn the property into a cable TV series through Paramount TV.

The $50 million first ‘Hansel’ film made $225 million worldwide, almost all of that overseas. Bruno Aveillan was slated to helm the sequel with Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton to star, but the decision to switch to TV has caught many by surprise and it’s unclear if any will be involved beyond the film’s original producers.

It marks the second Paramount film property to make the small screen switch of late, the other being the Jack Ryan franchise which will become an Amazon Original TV series produced by Carlton Cuse and Michael Bay.
