Three major films have just set out their ‘start of production’ press releases today, in the project revealing a couple of new details from each.
“Atonement” director Joe Wright’s adventure thriller for Focus Features kicks off shooting in Europe next week with Niels Arestrup (“A Prophet”) joining the cast. Here’s the new synopsis for the film which will be Focus’ biggest production thus far and will film in Finland, Bavaria, Morocco, and Berlin:
“Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) is a teenage girl. Uniquely, she has the strength, the stamina, and the smarts of a solider; these come from being raised by her father (Eric Bana), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of Sweden. Living a life unlike any other teenager, her upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin.
The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Cate Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity.”
“The Station Agent” and “The Visitor” director Tom McCarthy’s third film begins shooting March 15th in New York for Fox Searchlight. McCarthy and Joe Tiboni co-wrote the comedic relationship piece and here’s its new synopsis:
“Struggling attorney Mike Flaherty (Paul Giamatti), who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach, becomes legal guardian of an elderly client in an attempt to help keep his practice afloat. When the client’s teenage grandson runs away from home and shows up on his grandfather’s doorstep, Mike’s family life and his wrestling team are turned upside down.
Mike’s win-win proposition turns into something much more complicated than he ever bargained for. McCarthy’s deft touch balancing drama and comedy, broken hearts and poignant humanity is at play in Win Win.”
Amy Ryan (“Gone Baby Gone”), Melanie Lynskey (“Up in the Air”), Bobby Cannavale (“The Station Agent”) and Jeffrey Tambor (“The Hangover”) also star.
Untitled Comedy Project
The new ensemble comedy for Relativity Media has begun production and will continue through until late May.
Originally set up at Overture Films, the project moved to Relativity when the producers had a meeting and essentially revamped the central premise of the film which will now be a series of comedic sketches based around a unifying storyline along the lines of 70’s comedy classics like “Kentucky Fried Movie”.
As a result, a huge swath of stars have signed to take part in the project. The official list now includes Banks, Gerard Butler, Kieran Culkin, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Knoxville, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz, Liev Schreiber, Sean William Scott, Tony Shalhoub, Emma Stone, Matt Walsh, Patrick Warburton, Naomi Watts, and Kate Winslet.
Further casting will be announced soon. It also sounds like there’ll be several major talents involved behind-the-camera as the likes of Peter Farrelly, Brett Ratner, Elizabeth Banks, Bob Odenkirk, and Griffin Dunne are listed as “filmmakers who have already completed their work”.
