Tom Hanks is in negotiations to portray airline pilot Captain Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger in Clint Eastwood’s film about 2009’s ‘Miracle on the Hudson’ incident at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Sullenberger and his crew had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport when both engines were knocked out by a flock of geese. With no time to return to reach an airport, he made the decision to attempt a water landing on the Hudson – it worked with all 155 people on board surviving.
The 58-year-old Hanks is the same age as Sullenberger was when he made his heroic landing. Eastwood, Tim Moore, Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall will produce.
Eastwood aims to begin shooting in September, but Hanks is currently in the midst of shooting Ron Howard’s “Inferno” and has press commitments for Steven Spielberg’s “Bridge of Spies,” both of which Eastwood’s film will have to work around.
