Tom Hanks and his Playtone production company look to have been busy boys over the weekend according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Once “Larry Crowne” is done, Hanks’ next project will be a 3D outer space adventure based on the 1966 Mattel astronaut action figure Major Matt Mason.
Hanks and “Justified” creator Justified are co-writing the screenplay and Hanks is currently in talks with Robert Zemeckis to potentially helm.
At the same time, HBO and Playtone have laid out plans for a six season adaptation of fantasy author Neil Gaiman’s novel “American Gods”.
Each season will consist of 10-12 hourlong episodes and will be shot on a hefty budget of $35-40 million, which works out at a minimum of $3 million per episode.
Hanks and Gary Goetzman will produce while Gaiman is on board as writer and executive producer.
