Hanks & Howard Talk The “Splash” Remake

One of the more unexpected remakes in the works announced recently is that of “Splash,” the Ron Howard-directed 1980s comedy about a man (Tom Hanks) who falls in love with a mermaid (Daryl Hannah).

The new version from Disney Pictures reportedly features a gender swap with Channing Tatum rumored to be taking on the mermaid role with a young woman (Jillian Bell) falling for him. Marja-Lewis Ryan is penning the script while Howard, Tatum, Brian Grazer, Reid Carolin and Peter Kieran are producing.

Both Ron Howard and Tom Hanks appeared at the “Inferno” premiere this week where the Associated Press asked Hanks if he’d be willing to appear in the new “Splash” to which he brilliantly responded:

“No one asked me! I’m all in favor of it. Why not? That’s fine! I figure if they were really going to be bold, I would come back as Allen Bauer, and I would go off with Channing Tatum. That would be a bold movie, and I am suggesting it right now. Put THAT on your AP wire.”

Howard also briefly discusses the extent of his involvement. Check out the video below:
