Disney and Lucasfilm are closing in on the actor they want to play a young Han Solo in the upcoming untitled “Star Wars” spinoff reports Variety.
Thousands of actors were considered with the list shortened to around a dozen names. Those on the list now include: Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner. With the exception of 29-year-old Eastwood, all the actors are aged 20-25.
NDAs and test deals are still being worked out, but producer Kathleen Kennedy and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will begin testing the group with a decision expected in a few weeks despite the fact that the film will not shoot until next January.
Why so early? Sources suggest an early decision has more to do with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” in which the young Solo could have a small cameo ahead of his own standalone film (ala Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War”). The Solo standalone film would predominantly be set around the same period – essentially a decade before the events in ‘A New Hope’.
‘Rogue One’ still has a month of shooting to go ahead of a December release. The Han Solo film will open in cinemas on May 25th 2018.
