Halo, “Last of Us” Remaster News

343 Industries are allegedly working on “Halo: The Master Chief Collection,” a collection of the four numbered “Halo” video games that have been remastered for Xbox One.

The Master Chief Collection will reportedly be out later this year, and will apparently NOT include either “Halo: Reach” or “Halo: ODST”.

Microsoft has not confirmed the project, and specifics like resolution, frame rate, etc. are unknown at this time. It is thought however that Saber Interactive, who handled “Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary,” is involved in this box-set.

Speaking of remasters, Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann spoke with EDGE Online about the upcoming “The Last of Us” PS4 remaster and how difficult the job was:

“We expected it to be Hell, and it was Hell… These engineers are some of the best in the industry and they optimised the game so much for the PS3’s SPUs specifically. It was optimised on a binary level, but after shifting those things over [to PS4] you have to go back to the high level, make sure the [game] systems are intact, and optimise it again.

I can’t describe how difficult a task that is. And once it’s running well, you’re running the [versions] side by side to make sure you didn’t screw something up in the process, like physics being slightly off, which throws the game off, or lighting being shifted and all of a sudden it’s a drastically different look. That’s not ‘improved’ any more; that’s different. We want to stay faithful while being better.”

Amongst the changes for the remaster – all the textures and models are high-res now, there’s improved lighting, cinematics have all been re-rendered and run at 1080p/60fps.
