Hallstrom Replaces Condon In “Yemen”

Lasse Hallstrom will replace Bill Condon as director on the film adaptation of Paul Torday’s novel “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen” at Fox Searchlight says The Hollywood Reporter.

Simon Beaufoy (“Slumdog Millionaire”) will adapt the script about a slightly pompous middle-aged scientist working at London’s National Centre for Fisheries Excellence. A mysterious sheikh offers him a job to introduce the sport of salmon fishing into the Yemen.

He initially refuses to help, but is ultimately pressured into working on the project which becomes a hot political potato. Ewan McGregor, Emily Blunt and Kristin Scott Thomas star in the project.

Condon (“Dreamgirls,” “Kinsey”) has had to depart the project, likely due to his commitment to helm “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn”.
