The long-rumored Jackie Earle Haley (“Watchmen,” “Little Children”) is now locked in to play the new Freddy Krueger in New Line Cinema’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street” remake according to the trades.
The original series portrayed Freddy as a child killer who was burned to death in his own shack by the parents of the murdered kids. Years later when the remaining kids in the area have grown up into teens, he comes back in their dreams and starts brutally killing them.
Kyle Gallner (TV’s “Veronica Mars,” “The Haunting in Connecticut”) has also been cast as Quentin. Samuel Bayer is directing the relaunch, which was written by Wesley Strick.
Andrew Form and Brad Fuller are producing. Filming kicks off May 5th in Chicago for release next April.
