Guy Ritchie Considers “Empire Rising”

Warner Bros. Pictures has picked up the film rights to Thomas Kelly’s 2006 novel “Empire Rising” which will be developed as a potential directing vehicle for Guy Ritchie.

The story is set in 1930 just as construction on the iconic Empire State Building begins and the Depression is beginning to take hold. Historical figures also make appearances throughout.

The action follows a love triangle between an Irish immigrant and steelworker who runs guns for the IRA, the bagman for the city’s corrupt mayor, and a beautiful female artist.

Kelly, who is also a producer on BBC America’s “Copper”, will pen the adaptation which Ritchie and Lionel Wigram will produce.
