Set visit reports from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequel have started going online today and both filmmaker James Gunn and actor Chris Pratt were asked about “Avengers” story threads and their ties to ‘Guardians’.
Pratt for example was asked by Collider if the Power Stone from the first ‘Guardians’ has an impact on his character Star Lord in the second:
“It plays a certain role. His interaction with the Infinity Stone in the first movie becomes – there’s a thread there that gets pulled in the second movie, like you get to know a little bit more. But yeah, that wasn’t an unimportant aspect of who he is.”
Gunn meanwhile confirms to the outlet that Josh Brolin’s Thanos has no involvement in the ‘Guardians’ sequel, saying he wanted to put the focus on the two sisters Gamora and Nebula and their issues with each other.
However Marvel’s Kevin Feige tells them that Thanos is the front and center of “Avengers: Infinity War”. In fact:
“Thanos in Infinity War is – in a movie that has a lot of characters, you could almost go so far as to say he is the main character, and that’s a bit of a departure from what we’ve done before, but that was appropriate for a movie called Infinity War.”
A casting report at CBR today suggests ‘Infinity War’ will also have scenes set in Asgard, something Feige wouldn’t confirm. He does though say that Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Ragnarok” will be a film in which the cosmic world of ‘Guardians’ which is in our universe, and the alternate dimensions of the Nine Realms of the “Thor” world, start coming together:
“There are three scenes on Earth in Thor: Ragnarok. Everything else is Asgard, and not all of these worlds, but world that certainly, let’’ put it this way, in Thor lingo, it’s beyond the nine realms. There are other planets that we spend a lot of time on in Thor: Ragnarok, that certainly people would say, ‘oh, that’s sort of like the Guardians world’, but they’re just other areas of the Marvel cosmos universe.”
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” opens in May, “Thor: Ragnarok” hits in November, “Avengers: Infinity War” opens May 2018.
