“Pan’s Labyrinth” and “Hellboy” director Guillermo del Toro will pen and direct the DreamWorks Animation feature “Trollhunters” reports Heat Vision.
The story is based on a young-adult book del Toro submitted to publisher Hyperion two weeks ago, a tale which “combines fairy tales with modern times and is about how difficult it is to be kid” says the filmmaker. “Normally, kids are idealized in animated films. But the growing pains, married with the notion that there is a world right next to us that is completely plagued by creatures of ancient lore, it’s thematically fitting with the rest of my stuff” he adds.
The project is still quite a few years off and del Toro has just begun work on the screenplay. del Toro has also been enlisted to serve as a consultant and exec producer on several projects in development at the studio including “Kung Fu Panda 2,” “Puss in Boots” and even the upcoming “Megamind” which he has consulted on in regards to the film’s editing and story structure.
Finally, he adds that he will be giving a budget and art presentation to Universal in three weeks for his H.P. Lovecraft adaptation “At the Mountains of Madness” where he hopes he will get the green light to go forward with the project.
