“The Guest” and “You’re Next” director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett are reportedly nearing a deal to work in the same capacities on an English-language remake of the 2010 South Korean serial killer thriller “I Saw the Devil” for Snoot Entertainment.
The character-driven revenge story follows an elite special agent (Lee Byung-hun) whose pregnant fiance is murdered by an evil madman (Choi Min-sik). This prompts him to lure the killer out and into an increasingly violent and twisted game of cat-and-mouse.
Unlike most films of the genre, there’s no whodunit aspect and the good guy is rarely in danger. Instead, he’s the one that’s continually taunting and effectively torturing an increasingly desperate killer.
Adi Shankar, Spencer Silna, Keith Calder and Jessica Calder will produce.
