There’s many things to look forward to in the upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” but one of the most fun is that it’s also an unofficial reunion of Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell – the iconic 1980s action heroes who previously teamed up in 1989’s “Tango & Cash”.
In ‘Guardians,’ Russell is playing Star-Lord’s father Ego The Living Planet, while Stallone is rumored to be playing high-ranking The Ravagers member Starhawk (unconfirmed). Sadly, Russell has confirmed to CBM that he and Stallone don’t actually have any scenes together onscreen, but they did get to hang out:
“No, there’s nothing there. But what was fun was, when I learned that Sly was going to play a part, it was fun to just be able to feel that we were in the same movie.
I saw Sly two or three times during the making of the movie and after. It was great to be able to, once gain, hang with Sly. He’s a really huge person. His demeanor, everything about him. He always puts a smile on my face, and we share lots of laughs.
I find him to be very smart and very funny – and alive… He’s a great hang. This was just fun, being in the same sandbox. It was nice to have that connection again.”
The film’s director James Gunn has previously made it clear that both characters are important to the MCU going forward and these will not be one-off appearances. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” hits theaters May 5th, and the film’s “Awesome Mix Vol. 2” soundtrack will be out on April 28th.
