Marvel and James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to 2014’s acclaimed and beloved space adventure and comic adaptation, will be the first feature film production to use RED’s new 8K WEAPON Vista Vision camera.
The camera captures 8K resolution images at 75 frames per second, 6K at 100 fps, or 4K at 150 fps with REDCODE RAW along with interchangeable lens mounts, an intelligent OLPF system, and in-camera 3D-LUT outputs. 8K resolution is 7680×4320 and boasts sixteen times as many pixels as the 1080p format seen on Blu-rays and HD TV.
Executive producer Nik Korda says: “We are all hugely excited to be shooting the next Guardians of the Galaxy on the new WEAPON 8K. This is my third collaboration with RED, having previously shot with the RED EPIC on Prometheus and the EPIC DRAGON on Tarzan. The large sensor size and super high resolution offered by the new WEAPON 8K, combined with its lightweight and compact size open up a whole range of new creative possibilities.”
Gunn revealed the news via a posting on social media. The film itself will open May 5th 2017.
