Following a successful run after opening last month in London, the stage musical version of “Groundhog Day” is coming to Broadway and will open in the Spring in New York’s August Wilson Theatre.
Based on the 1993 comedy film starring Bill Murray, the musical follows a jaded weatherman forced to live the same day over and over again. Andy Karl took over the character during its UK run which wraps this week.
It’s unclear if any of the London cast will make the transfer to New York. The project was adapted for the stage by co-writer Danny Rubin and boasts songs by Australian comedian/musician Tim Minchin.
