Sony Pictures has pushed back the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy “Grimsby” from its July 31st release date to early 2016.
The Louis Leterrier-directed film will now open on February 26th 2016 and also stars Isla Fisher, Rebel Wilson, Penélope Cruz, Ian McShane, and Gabourey Sidibe.
In response, The Weinstein Company has now slotted in Antoine Fuqua’s boxing drama “Southpaw” for that July 31st release date. Coming off his emaciated look in “Nightcrawler,” Jake Gyllenhaal buffed up for “Southpaw” which deals with a middleweight boxing champion who struggles after he experiences a personal tragedy.
The move offers something one normally doesn’t get in the middle of summer – a serious, dramatic piece targeting adults. A welcome move though in some quarters.
