Greta Gerwig Joins Distressed “Damsels”

Mumblecore darling Greta Gerwig (“Greenberg,” “Arthur”) is set to star in Whit Stillman’s low-budget dark comedy “Damsels In Distress” reports WWD (via Hollywood Elsewhere)

The story follows a dynamic trio of liberal arts college girls who take in a new student and teach her their own misguided ways of helping people. ways which are used as a coping mechanism for their various failed college romances. Gerwig will play one of the three girls who aim to “prevent suicides through the powers of 30’s song-and-dance numbers.”

The project is Stillman’s first film since 1998’s “The Last Days Of Disco”. The filmmaker has tried to get to work on several projects in the interim without much success due to one factor or another.

Shooting on the project is expected to kick off very shortly.
