Greg Kinnear is in talks to star in the new eight-part TV adaptation of H.G. Wells’ alien invasion tale “War of the Worlds” at Canal Plus and 20th Century Fox’s Europe and Africa division.
Kinnear could take the lead role in the contemporary-set series and has seen the script, but talks are still underway ahead of the project going into production in 2019. Howard Overman (“Merlin”) created the new take which explores themes of ‘racial superiority and ethnic conflict’.
This is not to be confused with the Victorian-era three-part mini-series adaptation of the property starring Rafe Spall, Eleanor Tomlinson and Robert Carlyle. That take by ITV-owned Mammoth Screen will reportedly launch soon.
Canal Plus and Fox’s Europe & Africa produced the recently premiered Mark Strong-led series “Deep State”.
