Paul Greengrass (“The Bourne Ultimatum,” “Green Zone”) is in talks to direct a 3D remake of “Fantastic Voyage” for Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox says Variety.
The original 1966 sci-fi classic followed a group of scientists miniaturized and inserted into another man’s bloodstream to save a life. Shane Salerno (“Alien vs. Predator”) will pen the script.
The plan is to use the same 3D technology used by James Cameron on “Avatar” thanks to the involvement of Cameron’s Lightstorm company and Cameron himself who will likely produce.
The choice is a surprise as Greengrass’ notoriously contentious filming style of shaky handheld cameras, tight shots and quick editing is completely at odds with the new 3D technology which requires more wide shots and long takes to avoid inducing nausea.
