Green To Helm “Friday Night Lights” Reboot

David Gordon Green (“Stronger,” “Joe,” “Prince Avalanche”) is in final negotiations to direct the new film reimagining of “Friday Night Lights” for Universal Pictures.

Neither a sequel to Peter Berg’s original 2004 film or the critically acclaimed NBC & DirecTV series that followed starring Kyle Chandler, the new take is again based on H.G. Bissinger’s book about the 1988 Permian High School Panthers as the new Texas football team makes a run towards the state championship.

Universal has previously thrown around the idea of a sequel to either the film or series, but are now opting for a completely different setting and cast of characters. Brian Grazer will produce while Robert Schenkkan (“Hacksaw Ridge”) penned the script.

Green is currently in post-production on the new “Halloween”.
