It has been an incredibly busy day on the DC cinematic universe front with quotes flying left and right from pretty much everyone involved in this month’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” film and the future beyond that.
In regards to the latter, some big reveals have come from an EW cover story about the film and the soon to shoot two-part “Justice League” movie which begins production of its first feature in early April. First up, the magazine confirms that beyond the main trio, the three other superheroes that show up in cameos in ‘Dawn of Justice’ are: Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
So where’s Green Lantern? Looks like he’s likely not in the first and may well miss out on the second of the “Justice League” films according to producer Charles Roven:
“Every beat of the movie is not yet worked out. So there’s the possibility that he may or may not be in Justice League 2. For now, we felt that we were introducing enough characters that the best possible place we could put Green Lantern is some introduction in Justice League 2, or barring that, a movie after.”
Greg Silverman, Warners’ president of creative development and worldwide production, adds that fans should be patient:
“[Green Lantern] is an incredible character. He’s actually multiple incredible characters. There’s real opportunity there. We didn’t do a great job on that first Green Lantern movie. This is a character who deserves to be treated in the same way that Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman are being treated now, which is with great reverence. I guess I can say to the Green Lantern fans: if they can be patient with us, I think they’ll be really happy.”
Going past that, there’s some more minor details. David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” film takes place AFTER the events of ‘Dawn’ and not before as previously reported. The “Wonder Woman” film will have contemporary scenes at the start and end of the film, but otherwise will be pretty much entirely set in the past. Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) in her day job will be a mysterious antiquities dealer.
Henry Cavill confirms that he will NOT appear in “Suicide Squad,” but he might cameo in “Wonder Woman” saying “I haven’t heard anything yet, but watch that space”.
