With the first TV spots promising that the upcoming second season of FOX’s “Gotham” will serve as the ‘Rise of the Villains’, the obvious question that comes up is what new villains will we get to see in the new batch of episodes.
We already know there’ll be more with the future Joker (Cameron Monaghan) and that Mr. Freeze is coming into play, but in a new interview with Blastr, executive producer/director Danny Cannon says there’s at least a few more on the horizon:
“We find the Mr. Freeze story very emotional. So that’s one we are going to look at. Hugo Strange is a very interesting character who has never had an origin story, as is the Calendar Man. Azrael is a character we are starting very, very, very way back. And Tigress also.”
It also looks like Barbara Kean (Erin Richards), Jim’s former fiancee, will be going bad in the next few episodes as she and Monaghan’s Jerome are both in Arkham asylum at the start of the film:
“Barbara Kean is also put in there the first episode. It’s in the wing of Arkham where the worst of the worst are kept. And an event happens that allows him to be involved in the next few episodes.”
Richards talks about her entrance into Arkham and how the character will handle her new situation:
“She has no concept of what’s happening. She goes into Arkham and she meets all these characters, one of which is Jerome. These characters are going to shape her a little bit. They all shape the way Barbara develops in this series. But, she’s also kind of at the reins. She’s so free and in touch with her real stuff now. And her skill is she knows everyone’s weakness. She will just play along with each individual person until she gets what she wants. She’s going to be really powerful, which is exciting.”
“Gotham” returns to screens this Fall.
