Youngster Zachary Gordon (“National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” “The Brothers Bloom”) has scored the title role in “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” for Fox 2000 says The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on Jeff Kinney’s best-selling illustrated novels, the story follows the travails of smart-aleck middle-school student Greg Heffley (Gordon) during the course of an academic year.
Chloe Moretz is in negotiations for the female lead, an intense student with a wry sense of humor who dresses in all black. Rachel Harris (“The Hangover”) has also been cast as Gordon’s mother.
Jeff Filgo, Jackie Filgo, Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs wrote the screenplay. Thor Freudenthal is directing while Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson are producing.
Shooting kicks off August 12th in Vancouver where an open casting call for extras is being conducted.
