Gomez To Produce Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why”

Selena Gomez is set to executive produce “13 Reasons Why,” an upcoming thirteen episode TV series adaptation of Jay Asher’s best-selling 2007 young adult novel in the works at Netflix, Anonymous Content and Paramount TV.

The book tells the stories of the late Hannah Baker, a high school student who committed suicide, and follows a boy named Clay (yet to be cast) through an emotional night when he receives a shoe box of cassette tapes from his late classmate and crush Hannah.

On the tapes, which are mailed with instructions to pass along from one student to another, Hannah explains to twelve peers how they each played a role in her death, ultimately giving thirteen reasons explaining why she took her life.

The project, which had been in development as a feature film at Universal, will be penned by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Brian Yorkey (“Next To Normal”) penned the pilot while Mandy Teefey and Kristel Laiblin will also executive produce.
