Former “Doctor Who” alum Michelle Gomez and newcomer Chance Perdomo are set to play series regulars opposite Kiernan Shipka in the “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” TV series on Netflix.
Based on the Archie Comics characters, the untitled project reimagines the origin of Sabrina as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft. She must reconcile her dual nature – half-witch, half-mortal – while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.
Gomez will play Mary Wardell, Sabrina’s favorite teacher and mentor at Baxter High. When possessed by the devil’s handmaiden, Madam Satan, she turns into a sultry and cunning manipulator trying to lure Sabrina down a dark path.
Perdomo will portray Ambrose Spellman, Sabrina’s pan-sexual warlock cousin from England who is under house arrest at a funeral home by the Witches Council but is always up for mischief.
Lucy Davis (“Wonder Woman”) has also joined the cast as Hilda Spellman, the more nurturing of Sabrina’s two witch aunts with a warm sense of humor and a wicked streak.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Lee Toland Krieger, Jon Goldwater, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are all serving as executive producers.
