James Cameron’s Avatar and Pixar’s Up dominated the visual effects awards bash over the weekend, taking six and three awards respectively across eleven categories – “Avatar” dominating the live-action and “Up” the animated categories. “Sherlock Holmes” and “District 9” also took one award each, winning for ‘Supporting Visual Effects’ and ‘Compositing’ respectively.

Christian Berger’s cinematography for “The White Ribbon” scored the top award from his peers, beating out major features like “Avatar,” “The Hurt Locker” and “Inglourious Basterds”.
“A Prophet” took most of the top honours at this year’s French film awards with nine awards including best film, actor, supporting actor, director, script and several technical awards. “Gran Torino” won best foreign film while Isabelle Adjani (“Skirt Day”) and Emmanuelle Devos (“In the Beginning”) scored actress honours.
