People’s Choice
“Twilight” dominated the People’s Choice awards last night, scoring favourite movie, top on-screen team (Pattinson & Stewart), favourite franchise and the prize for best breakthrough actor (Taylor Lautner).

“The Proposal” scored favourite comedy movie and favourite actress (Sandra Bullock), while “Inglourious Basterds” and “Up” took home best independent award and animated film respectively.

Other award wins include Johnny Depp for favourite actor, Hugh Jackman for action hero, Jim Carrey for comedic actor and Miley Cyrus for best breakthrough actress.

The nominees for live-action film of the year this year are: Avatar, An Education, District 9, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds, Invictus, Precious, Star Trek, Up and Up in the Air.

Seven films remain in the running in the Visual Effects category for the 82nd Academy Awards: “Avatar”, “District 9”, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”, “Star Trek”, “Terminator Salvation”, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”, “2012”.

A special screening of FX reels from each picture takes place on January 21st with the vote whittled down to three films for final Oscar consideration.
