Out doing early press for the new “Independence Day” sequel, actor Jeff Goldblum is also taking the time to prep for his recently announced role of The Grandmaster in Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Ragnarok” film at Marvel Studios.
In the comics, the Grandmaster is an ancient Elder of the universe with a penchant for game-playing and whom possesses one of the Infinity stones. He tells Empire:
“He’s a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker, an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells. I thought, ‘I can do that, I’ll bet!’ I’m working on my part every day. I’m a sponge, researching. [Taika Waititi] is encouraging me to improvise and make it my own, and that’s what I’m trying to do. I hope he doesn’t throw me out on the first day!”
Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, and Karl Urban star in the film which has been confirmed to begin production in the first week of July in Queensland, Australia. Goldblum says he’ll be filming for 3-4 weeks.
