“Deadpool” once again dominated the box-office this weekend, the Ryan Reynolds-led superhero film scoring a further $31.5 million to add to its $285.6 million domestic gross and an easy first place finish in its third weekend of release.
“Gods of Egypt,” Lionsgate’s hoped for franchise, proved a dud and not just with critics. The fantasy epic opened to just $14 million domestically and a further $24 million internationally – not good for a film with a $140 million price tag.
‘Gods’ wasn’t the only flop though. Both feelgood sports comedy “Eddie the Eagle” and heist thriller “Triple 9” failed to produce much heat with opening weekends of just over $6 million each and fifth and sixth place finishes. Both cost around $20 million each to produce and so won’t hurt the studios much.
“Kung Fu Panda 3” and “Risen” took third and fourth place with $9 million and $7 million respectively.
