Amazon Studios has announced that they will be releasing New Regency’s top-secret Donald Glover-led tropical thriller feature “Guava Island” from this Saturday via its Prime Video service. The film will be available to stream for free without an Amazon Prime subscription and launches at 12:01am US-PT and will remain available for all on the service until 6pm that night.
The release will hit just hours after Glover’s headlining performance as Childish Gambino at Coachella on Friday and the film’s live-streaming premiere. Those actually at Coachella will get to see it from Thursday at a specially constructed theater built for the event.
Rihanna, Nonso Anozie and Letitia Wright co-star in the film, which was shot on location in Cuba. The story follows a local Caribbean musician determined to throw a festival for everyone to enjoy. Regular “Atlanta” episode helmer Hiro Murai directed the film which was penned by Glover’s brother Stephen.
Vanity Fair has further details, saying its a music-driven hour-long affair and is heavily influenced by both “Purple Rain” and “City of God”. The film will be accessible at Amazon.com/guavaisland from Saturday, April 13th at 12:01 am US-PT.
