Netflix’s four-part “Gilmore Girls” installment has been released and is already being absorbed by fans. All too quickly, the understandable question has arisen – will there be more?
On the one hand, “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” effectively brings the entire series full circle and closes things off. On the other the big revelation in the final moments leaves things open for yet another batch of new episodes.
It all comes down to creator Amy Sherman-Palladino’s intentions, is she ready to walk away from Stars Hollow? Asked about the possibility recently by THR, she said she was waiting to see just how the Netflix specials were received:
“We really had a very specific journey in our minds and we fulfilled the journey. So to us, this is the piece that we wanted to do. And the whole thought about, is there more, is there more, is there more – this has to go out into the universe now. We’ve got to put this to bed. And then whatever happens, happens.”
A lot would also depend upon the availability of the actors and executive producers – Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop and Matt Czuchry have yet to sign up for their first post-revival projects, while Scott Patterson indicates he’s open to more episodes of the series saying:
“It’s be nice to do it every year. Maybe every two years, do a three-month thing, do four more chapters. It was easy to do. It was fun. It was really rewarding and people got a sense that if this was going to be the last thing that we now have some closure.”
Sherman-Palladino is currently working on the Amazon pilot “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” about a housewife who becomes a stand-up comic.
