Gillian Anderson (“The Fall,” “The X-Files”) will play former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of Netflix’s “The Crown”. Both the third and fourth season are being filmed and produced together with the third to air later this year and the fourth in 2020.
The third season will see Olivia Colman replace Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II along with Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong-Jones, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, and Emerald Fennell as Camilla Parker Bowles.
That season begins in 1963 and will cover events such as the rise of the Beatles and England winning the soccer World Cup in 1966. The fourth season will move into the 1970s, where Thatcher served as Britain’s first female Prime Minister between 1979 to 1990.
Anderson recently starred in Netflix’s “Sex Education” comedy series which debuted its first season earlier this month.
