Offers are reportedly out to Mel Gibson and John Lithgow to star in the upcoming comedy sequel “Daddy’s Home 2” at Paramount Pictures.
The first film centered on Will Ferrell’s Brad Whitaker, a mild-mannered radio executive who recently married Sara (Linda Cardinelli) and is trying to be the best step-father he can to her young children.
His life gets turned upside down when Sara’s ex-husband Dusty Mayron (Mark Wahlberg) comes back into town as his step-children start paying more attention to him, leading to both of these men trying to one-up each other.
Chances of Gibson and Lithgow hopping onboard are said to be ‘promising’. No word on their roles, though the obvious possibility being the fathers of Wahlberg and Ferrell’s characters. John Cena also had a cameo in the first film, no word if he’ll return.
Sean Anders and John Morris are coming back to write the sequel’s screenplay, Anders will also direct and a November 10th release is targeted so things will be moving quickly. The first film earned $240 million worldwide during its theatrical run.
