Early talks are underway for Mel Gibson to direct and Andrew Garfield to star in the World War II drama “Hacksaw Ridge” at Cross Creek Pictures.
The story will be based on the life of Desmond T. Doss, the first conscientious objector to win the Congressional Medal of Honor for saving dozens of soldiers during the Battle of Okinawa while serving as a medic. He received two Bronze Stars and three Purple Hearts.
David Permut, Bill Mechanic, Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson are producing. Walden Media had been involved with the project, but is now out.
