Two years ago, the Golden Globes raised eyebrows when Ridley Scott’s “The Martian” was put into the comedy/musical categories as opposed to its drama categories, it was a move that helped it win the Golden Globe for Best Picture though.
Universal has opted to submit “Get Out” in the comedy categories at this year’s Globes with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association meeting today to determine categories. Famed film journo Kris Tapley was there and tweeted: “‘Get out’ seemed most in danger of being overruled, but while there was disagreement, it’s officially in comedy.”
The upside of the classification is that the film will likely have no real competition this year for the top prize, as opposed to drama where there’s likely to be a more serious battle for the top honor. The Golden Globes will be handed out on January 7th with the nominations announced December 11th.
