Kristen Bell (“Veronica Mars,” “Heroes”) will join the ballet-themed indie black comedy “Dance of the Mirlitons” says The Hollywood Reporter.
Evan Greenberg penned the script and is directing the story of an ambitious, slightly overweight ballerina with an overbearing mother (Bell) who will stop at nothing to become a star. The girl enters a “Mean Girls”-type environment when she has to prove her worth in class.
Daniel Dubiecki and Joel Michaely will produce and are conducting a nationwide casting search for a young actress to fill the lead role right now. Shooting hopes to kick off in the winter.
The project, which landed on the 2005 Blacklist of best unproduced screenplays, was picked up by Warner Independent Pictures a few years ago, but was lost in limbo when that division was shut down in 2008. It has taken until now for Greenberg to get the rights back.
