Gervais To Return As Golden Globes Host

Following in the wake of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s three year stint as hosts, Ricky Gervais is set to return to the stage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel to take on that role for the 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 10th.

Gervais hosted the Globes from 2010-2012 and NBC registered ratings gains from the previous two telecasts. The actor’s hosting gig caused controversy at times, but was also amongst the most memorable and enjoyable of awards show hosting gigs in recent years alongside his successors – turning the often dull ceremony into one often far more entertaining than the Oscars in recent years.

A winner of seven BAFTA Awards, three Golden Globes and two Emmys, Gervais currently stars in the Netflix series “Derek” for which he has been Emmy nominated for two consecutive years. The three-hour Golden Globes ceremony is the kick-off of awards season and will be aired live coast to coast from 8-11pm ET on NBC.

In a statement, Hollywood Foreign Press Association President Lorenzo Soria says: “Ricky Gervais left us with a lasting impression and we are thrilled to have him back in our show as we honor the best in film and television. His off-the-cuff wit and quirky charm will surely have the room and audiences around the world at the edge of their seats.”
