George Clooney is set to both star in and direct a six-episode limited series based on the Joseph Heller novel “Catch-22” for Paramount Television and Anonymous Content.
Set in Italy in WWII, the story follows U.S. Air Force bombardier Yossarian who is trying to do what he needs to do to go home. Clooney will play Col. Cathcart.
The title refers to the paradox that airmen who felt mentally unfit to fly were not obligated to do so, but anyone who applied to stop flying was sane enough to fly – creating the ‘catch-22’ of the title.
Australian filmmakers Luke Davies (“Lion”) and David Michod (“War Machine”) are teaming for the project which they will pen and executive produce. Clooney and Grant Heslov will also executive produce.
Mike Nichols helmed a previous 1970 film adaptation starring Alan Arkin.
