Gemma Arterton is set to play Marilyn Monroe in a one-off Sky Arts “Urban Myths” 30-minute comedy special set against the backdrop of the making of Billy Wilder’s 1959 comedy classic “Some Like It Hot”.
Titled “Marilyn Monroe and Billy Wilder,” the project also stars James Purefoy as Wilder and focuses on hard-drinking Monroe’s rumored inability to land the “it’s me, sugar” line in the film – getting to the point that Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon reportedly made side bets during filming.
Sean Foley will helm the episode. You may remember “Urban Myths” for its still unaired first season episode which starred Joseph Fiennes as Michael Jackson in a short about him, Liz Taylor (Stockard Channing) and Marlon Brando (Brian Cox) on a road trip.
Several other one-offs under the label are on the way including ones with Luke Treadaway as David Bowie along with actors like David Suchet, Jack Whitehall, Steve Pemberton, Noel Fielding and Sheila Hancock.
