Gellar Confirmed For “Cruel Intentions” Return

Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her role of Kathryn Merteuil from the 1999 film “Cruel Intentions” for the upcoming sequel TV series of the same name on NBC.

Gellar has reportedly been in talks, but it was not a guarantee she would be back. Now it’s set with the former “Buffy” actress making the announcement herself on Instagram.

The new series is set fifteen years on with Kathryn vying for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey (Taylor John Smith), the son of her brother the late Sebastian Valmont (Ryan Phillippe) and Annette Hargrove (Reese Witherspoon).

Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined. Witherspoon will not be reprising her role from the film, while Samantha Logan and Sophina Brown also star.

Roger Kumble, who wrote and directed the original film, co-wrote the pilot with Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross and will direct it. He, Neal Moritz and Pavun Shetty will executive produce.
