The Xbox has been slammed in recent years for its lack of original exclusives with the studio only really sticking to its three big franchises – “Halo,” “Gears of War” and “Forza” and not developing new IP.
As part of its Xbox E3 press conference, Microsoft unveiled new entries in all three series from “Halo Infinite” to “Forza Horizon 4” and most surprisingly “Gears of War 5”. The latter is also getting two spin-off games – mobile title “Gears Pop” and PC strategy game “Gears Tactics”. We’ve already posted the ‘Halo’ trailer, but the trailers for the other two can be seen below.
Additionally the company announced it has been on a bit of a spending spree, acquiring numerous game studios including acclaimed single player game developer Ninja Theory (“Enslaved: Odyssey to the West,” “Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice,” “DmC: Devil May Cry”), the promising Compulsion Games (“We Happy Few”), “State of Decay” developers Undead Labs, and “Forza Horizon” developers Playground Games.
They’re also creating a new studio in Seattle called The Initiative and led by former Crystal Dynamics head of studio Darrell Gallagher. The new studio is already at work on a game but details are scarce.
“Gears of War 5” doesn’t have a release date as yet. “Forza Horizon 4” comes out October 2nd.
