Gavin O’Connor (“Pride and Glory”) has set up “Warrior”, the first film in a potential trilogy, at Lionsgate says Variety.
Penned by O’Connor, A.M. Tambakis and Cliff Dorfman, the mixed-martial-arts saga follows two estranged brothers on a collision course to fight in a tournament for the heavyweight championship.
Lionsgate will also be involved in a 16-man grand prix mixed-martial-arts tournament dubbed Sparta that will be launched in connection with the movie. UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture, who will play himself in the film, is also involved.
“Warrior” starts shooting in January in Mexico and Pittsburgh.
