Gary Ross Directs Spidey Spin-Off “Venom”

Gary Ross (“Seabiscuit,” “Pleasantville”) will pen the next draft of the script and potentially direct the “Spider-Man” spin-off feature “Venom” for Sony Pictures says Heat Vision Blog.

Venom is a gooey alien parasite that bonds with Peter Parker and later his newsroom rival and becomes a monstrous beast.

Topher Grace portrayed the character in 2007’s “Spider-Man 3”, no word if Grace will return or even if the story will be a continuation of that or a reboot with no link to the “Spider-Man” universe.

Ross, who is also polishing the “Spider-Man 4” script, takes over from previous “Venom” drafts by the likes of “Mean Creek” writer Jacob Estes and “Zombieland” scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
