Garrett Hedlund (“Tron: Legacy,” “On the Road”) will join Jack O’Connell in the Angelina Jolie-directed Lou Zamperini biopic “Unbroken”.
“Skins” star O’Connell plays Zamperini, a Los Angeles high school track star who raced in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Seven years later his Air Force plane crashed in the Pacific.
He survived without food and water for 47 days, washing ashore on a Japanese island behind enemy lines where he became a prisoner of war for two years.
Hedlund would play the leader of the POW camp where Zamperini is being held. William Nicholson, Richard LaGravenese and the Coen brothers have all worked on the script.
Pre-production is currently in full swing on the project which will shoot in Sydney, Australia.
