Garland’s “Annihilation” Set For February

Starting out as the scribe of such great genre films as “28 Days Later,” “Sunshine,” “Never Let Me Go” and “Dredd,” Alex Garland made his directorial debut with 2015’s “Ex Machina”.

The film deservingly made a lot of ‘Best of Year’ lists and scored multiple award nominations, including a best VFX Oscar. Now, Garland’s follow-up effort “Annihilation” has finally been given a release date of February 23rd 2018 by Paramount.

The story follows four women – a biologist (Natalie Portman), an anthropologist (Gina Rodriguez), a psychologist (Jennifer Jason Leigh), and a surveyor (Tessa Thompson) who set out on an expedition into ‘Area X’.

This marks the twelfth such expedition into this mysterious, uninhabited and abandoned area that nature has begun to reclaim. Previous expeditions have been disastrous – fraught with disappearances, suicides, aggressive cancers, and mental trauma.

Oscar Isaac also stars in the film based on Jeff VanderMeer’s acclaimed 2014 novel.
