Filmmaker Gareth Edwards (“Monsters”) has parted ways with the sequel to the 2014 “Godzilla” reboot he directed.
Edwards was set to return to helm the project after he wrapped up work on “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” which is currently in post-production.
Reasons for the departure remain hazy, though sources indicate it was amicable and the filmmaker was feeling rushed to meet a timeline. Instead he’s taking a break from back-to-back tentpole-size pictures to focus on his own, smaller-scale gestating projects.
Legendary and Warners intend to stick to their schedule and are now on the hunt for new filmmaker. “Godzilla 2” is currently targeting a March 22nd 2019 release.
