Following the teaser poster release, HBO has officially announced a July 16th premiere date for the upcoming seventh season of its big budget fantasy series “Game of Thrones”.
The announcement follows an hour-long Facebook Live video reveal of the date via a melting ice block. The feed cut out three times and has become an online joke this morning with comments such as “Next year, @HBO, a press release will do” conveying the appropriate sentiment about how to handle this better.
The seven episode run kicks off with Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) dragons and her immense army finally on the way to Westeros to challenge Queen Cersei (Lena Headey), while The Night King’s army is heading south. Winter is here.
The first trailer for the new season is also here, mostly just sound clips from the previous seasons.
