Game News: Mario, Dog, Forza, Quantum, TGC

Mario Kart 8
Extremely well reviewed Wii U exclusive “Mario Kart 8” sold 1.2 million units over the course of its first weekend, making it the best-selling game on the Nintendo console so far.

The game also helped raise Wii U console sales by 666% in the UK. The game was second for the week, coming in behind only Ubisoft’s much hyped “Watch Dogs”. [Source: Forbes]

Naughty Dog
Aside from the upcoming fourth “Uncharted” and a remaster of last year’s much acclaimed “The Last of Us,” game developer Naughty Dog has confirmed they are currently working on another major project. Co-president Evan Wells tells Game Informer:

“We definitely have another project on the scale of Uncharted in very early pre-production stages. We have the sizable team that it takes to get something like that off of the ground, but it’s got a long runway in front of it. We have a lot of great ideas and some stuff that is already getting everybody jazzed and excited.”

Forza Horizon 2
Microsoft have announced “Forza Horizon 2” which is scheduled to hit Xbox One and Xbox 360 this Fall. The ‘Drivatar’ system from “Forza Motorsport 5” will also appear here. There’s also a new weather system, and hundreds of cars to choose from including the 2015 Lamborghini Huracan. [Source: IGN]

Quantum Break
The much touted Xbox One exclusive “Quantum Break,” from the makers of “Alan Wake,” has become the latest game to be pushed back to a 2015 release. The first gameplay from the title will take place at Gamescom later this summer rather than E3 in two weeks time.

thatgamecompany, developers of acclaimed titles like “Flower” and “Journey,” have announced that they have raised $7 million to fund their next game. The company, which previously was under contract with Sony, will now self-publish, market and distribute their own game this time which is “in the same spirit” as their previous work.
